Another thing is WAMP, well Apache, listening on the correct port? would indicate listening on port 80, but if Apache is set to listen on port 9090, which XAMPP uses for instance by default, then you would anyway need even if it would work without vhosts. I set up my local test site as virtual sites and I can, if need be, have two or three sites going at the same time using vHost. By default it takes C:wamp, then hit next and then Install button to install the WAMP Server. The destination location window will open to save where the WAMP folder wants to be located.
I am pretty sure that WAMP is one of those that enforces this anyway. Next the set up information window will open, then hit next. On your taskbar, near the time in the bottom right corner of your desktop, left click on the semicircle button and Click Put online. Double click the Wamp icon on your desktop. Isn't this an issue that you cannot these days with the later versions of Apache use My understanding is that these have to be set-up as Virtual sites now using vhosts. Run the installer, using the default options provided.
